About

Hello and welcome!

My story so far…   In late 2005 I walked off a plane in New Zealand with only one plan: no plan.  I spent the next 7 months taking photos, cleaning chicken coops, climbing, digging holes, cleaning toilets, making beds, hanging laundry and an assortment of other random jobs to earn a bit of cash here and there.  My home was an ugly blue van only two years my junior: no power steering, AM only radio, a bit leaky in the rain, 2nd gear on any uphills, and lucky to reach the 100 km/h speed limit on downhills.  Yet she took me to some of the most amazing places I’ve seen and given me a lifetime of stories to remember.

I thought this blog would be finished once I returned to California and my travels were over.  Yet I only managed to stay for one month before heading to Europe for another year of travel and photos.  I saw the midnight sun on the Lofoten islands in Norway, walked along the Lithuanian Baltic on a frozen February morning.  I saw the winter’s first snow fall high in the Swiss Alps and walked along the endless beach of a small German island in the North Sea.  And so my travels have continued to this day, sometimes in California and often times not.

Five years later there is still no end to this journey in sight, only dreams of bigger adventures and the places and people I hope to photograph in the following years.  As long as there is some empty road to travel down or some distant mountains to walk across, I fear I will always be restless if I remain in one place for too long.

  1. Hi Cody,
I am so jealous of the life you lead travlling all over the place, espcially spending weeks and weeks on the Lofoten Islands, somewhere I deam of visiting soon.
Amazing photos from the summits and coast!! Wow! Can I ask what camera and lenses you use (wide angle or zoom) ? Is it a full frame DSLR or smaller?
Also wondering if you happened to know about the hiking routes up various peaks prior to your Lofoten trips, via a guide book, or did you just make your routes as you went?
I am interested in visiting that area (after we save up for a while) and especially the peaks above Reine where all that good mountain and fjord scenery is. So far I have struggled to find a good English written hiking or scrambling guide book to the Lofoten Islands, and wondered whether you used one that you could recommend to me?
    Best regards
    Richard
